Maskne - What it is and how to treat it.

Ahh yes, 2020. The year of— well, everything. With the current pandemic and mask
mandates in place, you may find that your skin is giving you problems you’ve never
had before.

You may be suffering from mask induced acne. With all the taking off and putting on of
masks, especially if you wear makeup during the day, it can add up to very irritated
skin. Touching your face through the day, while touching not so clean surfaces can
introduce a lot of bacteria. This is worsened if you’re not changing masks frequently or
wear a fabric mask that isn’t being washed. All of this equals a recipe for disaster.

How To Treat It:
Throughout the day, try not to take your mask off and put it back on too many times.
When you take it off and place it on a counter, in your purse or on any public surface,
the mask is picking up any germs and bacteria that may be lingering and introducing
them to your skin. YUCK!

Use a new mask daily, or through the day if you can. If you’re using a fabric mask,
make sure you wash it nightly, have several for backups so that you always have a
fresh one on hand.

Limit cosmetics while wearing a mask if possible. Your face will be covered anyway, so
if you can, try to wear light foundation. The mask rubbing against your skin will push
cosmetics into the pores, as well as the extra sweating and condensation from
breathing in the mask will cause your pores to clog up faster.

Exfoliate often. When you take your mask off at the end of the day, make sure you
cleanse well (double cleansing is the holy grail) and then exfoliate at least once a week.
This will ensure that your pores are being cleansed properly and that there isn’t a build
of up oil and products in your skin. One Oak Organics ExfoleRx exfoliant is gentle
enough to use often, but clears skin beautifully.

Lastly, carry a good hand cleanser with you throughout the day. If you have to touch
your face to put your mask on and take it off, try to use a good bacteria killing product
before you reach for your mask.

We recommend the One Oak Organics SilveRx
Foaming cleanser. The best part about this product? It’s an all natural, alcohol-free
cleanser that dispenses as a foam, so its great for on the go.
